New sculpture - work in progress
These sculpures are based on ink pen/water drawings (7 minute poses) done during recent life drawing sessions. The process is a "subtractive" method of sculpting. I start with larger pieces of clay and build up the basic figure shape. I then refine by removing the clay while wet. I work on the figures until staisfied, then, as they begin to dry a bit, I use a wire to slice thru the thicker parts - hollow out the inside clay leaving a thinner wall - then I carefully "reassemble" the parts. The hollowed sculpture is vented so entrapted air can escape while firing the piece. They will be bisque fired to remove all water/moisture., then glazed and fired to Cone 6 (2200+ degrees).
Final glazed pieces below.

I create a lot of smaller sculptures, which I have dubbed "Little Ladies" - they are typically 8 - 12" in size. I use these as models / maquettes for larger sculptures.

Ceramics - Functional - Sculptural
Clay has called to Linda Levy for over 50 years. She has learned wheel throwing techniques, handbuilding, as well as glaze chemistry. Her latest sculptural works are inspired by working with live models. Linda's handbuilt plates and platters usually use her hand-created ceramic rollers to impart designs & textures.

"GOT YOU COVERED"
Hands in clay - can't help it. A lot of figuratives, in porcelain and other clay bodies, cone 10 and cone 6 firing ranges. And there are some functional pieces, sculptural and altered states
Latest experiments include drawing from the live model directly onto a prepared clay surface, as well as working with clay using 7 minute poses with a live model.
